let's talk: feminism.
Hi again! I'm here with my first post and I'm covering it on the topic of Feminism. Feminism is something that I've been passionate about for so long. I've always felt the need to voice my views about it and it would mean the world to me if you take your time to read through this post <3.
Let's talk feminism, shall we?
Okay, where do I even start? Let's start with explaining and clearing all doubts on what actually IS Feminism.
Feminism, as defined by the Oxford dictionary, is the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of equality of the sexes. In simple words, it is all about achieving equal rights and opportunities for all genders. Feminism is about equality and NOT female superiority.
Feminism as a word has been degraded and misconceived for so long now that it is almost considered a 'bad word'. Feminists are misunderstood for wanting female superiority when all they are protesting for is equal rights. Conservatives think that feminists are the enemies of men, which they certainly are not.
Being a feminist, in no way, means that I hate men. Understand that I'm fighting for equal rights, not looking to take away yours.
Although feminism and equal rights mean different things for different feminists, it revolves around the basic idea of equality for all genders. Feminism to me, is the pursuit of equal treatment and acceptance in society for all genders and sexualities. Feminism to me, is to get rid of gender roles and social norms and to be able to live in a society where everyone are free to be their authentic selves. Feminism to me is not confined within the equal rights between men and women but equal rights between ALL the genders, including the ones that are not socially normalized.
Now, what does it mean to be a feminist?
To be a feminist is to, firstly, believe that all genders deserve equal rights and to accept that not everyone are treated equally. If you do believe and accept this, then congrats, you're halfway there!
The other half, is when you accept and actually truly treat all genders equally; and this applies on all basis. Meaning, you don't consider any other gender to be inferior, you don't take away their rights, you accept and let them be and you don't show your domination over them. This is is the simplest form of feminism.
If you want to actively be an advocate for feminism then find any form of way you can use your voice to create change and voice it out. This can range anywhere from calling out misogyny to giving speeches about it, to protesting against injustice. Your feminism, your way. This is my way of being a feminist.
Until next time,
Pranavaa - your resident feminist.
yesss! i've often seen ppl that think being a feminist is just a trend these days but that is soo not truee. we're literally just fighting for equal rights and to live in a society where everyone is treated right and where they can be themselves without fearing society's judgement. like srsly its 2022, 'let them be them, let us be us'. this was such a beautiful post pranuuu. keep 'em cominggg. cant wait for the next one <3
